Declutter your children’s bedroom and create less cleaning for them and for you.

I grew up in a very clean home, with an always immaculate bedroom! A home that was always perfectly kept and smelling well, clean. I ask my mom for advice about everything! And while she doesn’t practice this whole minimalist thing, yet, she does knows how to keep a house clean and organized!

Before I started minimizing our belongings, toys were always a challenge! And while I’d loudly voiced my opinion about the toy mess to my kids and even my husband, my mom shared with me that she NEVER allowed us to have toys in our rooms or living spaces of our home; Just in a designated area, like a playroom… My response to that was negative. I wanted them to have fun in their rooms, not just sleep there! (Which they have never done anyway so it doesn’t even count… ) But I realized that was just the problem! More toys spread out to different rooms means more toy mess spread out around the house! I mean, it does make sense the more you think about it…

Once I realized this, I immediately moved the toys out of the boys rooms and into their playroom! The only thing they have in their rooms now are books, Cash has a bin of legos, and Axel has a cute fire house toy. That’s it! We used to have cars and a few other toys, but they were always making a mess of their rooms!

I also got rid of anything that didn’t belong! Extras of things, such as blankets, clothes that don’t fit that you might be storing, basically everything except their bed, clothes, and furniture/decor. Put the blankets and other items away where they go, not their room. Don’t allow their one place to call theirs, a place for YOU to store your excess things. Start thinking of it as a space for them to mentally grow and learn! Simplify their rooms, eliminate stress, and encourage calmness!

I wanted my boys rooms to have a clean, quiet, and peaceful space for a room. And eliminating the toys and other things that don’t belong, meant eliminating the possibility of a future mess. Setting myself up for less cleaning for me and for them!

Their rooms are probably my two favorite rooms in the house. Now if I can only get them to sleep in their rooms we’d be all set! Haha
