Getting Pregnant: ”What Do You Mean I Need To Hurry?”

Someone: “Aww!! They are adorable! Do you guys want more kids?”

Me: “Thank you! And yes, we’d love more someday!”

Someone: “Well, you’d better hurry up!”

Me: Awkwardly laugh while standing in front of them wondering what to say…

So I just say: “Yes. We’ve been trying.”

Listen. I may be “advanced maternal age” (🙄🙄🙄) but my uterus doesn’t need to hurry for anyone.

Maybe we’ve been trying. For years!

Maybe we’ve waited through one hundred three minute waits to just see one single line; holding it up to the light to see if there is another faint one. And then hurrying to the drugstore for another test. Because it can’t be negative again…

Maybe we’ve had a miscarriage since our youngest child.

Maybe our very last embryo didn’t take, and we’re trying to figure out a different way for God to bring a child into our lives.

Maybe. Just maybe, we *chose* to wait longer.

Because maybe it wasn’t the right time.

Or, financially we weren’t ready.

Maybe one of our other children had given us such a hard time that we *needed* a break.

Maybe we were trying to hurry and it just didn’t work…

Don’t tell someone they need to hurry when it comes to having a baby. Age, time, or circumstance should only be a concern to the one that is loaning out their baby-making parts.

And as I approach my 36th year of life, I sure wish we could hurry, I really do! 🧡 But I’ll just embrace the ADVANCED part of advanced maternal age, and enjoy my two other babies in the meantime. 😜
