How to escape your own mind and live in the moment with your children

You’re still allowed to have fun, mama! No matter how you feel about yourself, you still deserve to have fun! And today I did just that—I had fun with my kids and let go of all the insecurities I have. We spent the afternoon making silly faces under the water and playing in the pool, and had FUN!

🖤

But something dawned on me the other day while I was playing outside with them… You remember the fun you had as a child? The innocence of childhood? It’s something that I think we’ve all craved to have again as we get older, but life happens… We grow up, get a job, and have real adult things to deal with!

But what about when we play with our children?? If we actually take the time to play, we get the chance to escape the worries of adulthood and feel like a kid again.

But what if we don’t play? Or we’re standing on the sidelines while they do? It’s SO easy to do that. I know because I do it a lot! They play and I scroll on my phone, return emails, talk to friends on the phone… Even when I hear the question, “Hey mom, can you play baseball with me?!” Knowing that it probably isn’t going to be just a quick game, I usually say, no… Not every time, but a lot, because let’s face it—we’re busy! And that is okay, but take the time to play with your kids when you can…

Play like you’re 5 again!

🖤

Tell fart jokes.

Make faces with your kids.

Let them splash you.

Play tag.

Play in the rain.

Build forts.

🖤

Play the things they want you to (when you can) because while we don’t get the chance to be a kid again, they are—and their time to ‘just be a kid’ is running out… I know it’s hard to hear, but it’s the truth.

I want my children’s image of their childhood to be filled with ME in it!

🖤

So let it go, JUST PLAY, and they will love you even more for it!
