What Being Unorganized Taught Me About Giving Back

I believe most people are good.

That’s a line from my favorite at the moment, and it’s so true! I was proved this TWICE last week. One event after the next, and I’ll tell ya, it made my day and quite possibly my week!

One afternoon last week Cash, Axel, and I (and about 3 monster trucks) walked into a local Mexican restaurant that we frequent. We ate lunch, and proceeded to the checkout. Digging through my black hole of a purse I couldn’t find my card at all!!! Panic mode! I told the guy that I think my card was in my van, so I went out there to get it, and it was no where to be found… I walked back inside and frantically rummaged through my purse again to find it—and nothing! I had no cash and no other card to use because I’d lost the other one in my van. I dropped it down the side of the seat and it’s nowhere to be found since. It’s still a confusing mystery, but that’s a whole other story! Anyway, I had to confess to the worker that I didn’t have a way to pay. That I would need to go to the bank and get cash and bring it back.

I. Was. So. Embarrassed!!!

I mean, I looked like a mess. Mom life t-shirt on,  you get the idea… And the guy saw my purse I was digging through, which I’m sure gave him a pretty good idea of how my van and my brain would look…haha. As I was explaining, I was approached by a nice woman who’d overheard me and said, “Don’t worry about it honey! I’ve been there before toting around kids. I’ll get it for you!” I immediately reacted, “No, that’s so nice of you, but you don’t have to do that! I will just go get cash and bring it back.” After what seemed minutes back and forth between us, I finally let her pay for it. Afterwards she said, “It’s really my pleasure. Just pay it forward.” I told her that I would for SURE pay it forward and thanked her probably 5 times!!

After lunch I went over to McDonald’s to get a tea, and as I get up to the window to pay, the lady tells me that the car in front of me paid for it!!! What?! How? Two nice people in a day, one right after the next? I’ve got some work to do and some definite paying it forward to do!

Which brings me to this yesterday morning, at McDonald’s again… Sorry I have a coke addiction. Which is now Diet Coke, because you know, I’m watching my figure I guess… I noticed a man and his son (I’m assuming) in a truck ordering and I thought, that’s them! I’m paying for their breakfast! I told the man at the window that I wanted to pay for the truck behind me. Before I drove away the worker said, “God bless you, have a good day!”

I instantly felt so good about the day!

Waiting in line I looked in my rear view mirror (in a discreet non creepy way) at them attempting to pay. When they realized what I’d done, I couldn’t help but wonder, did that extra $10 in their pocket help them? Was that $10 money they needed, but were hungry? Maybe $10 was nothing to them, but it made their day? Maybe, it taught that boy a good lesson by someone doing something kind for someone just because. We just don’t know what a kind simple of gesture will do for someone. And it doesn’t matter really, as long as you do it out of the kindness of your heart. When I drove off, the man and the boy were waving at me “thanking me.” I couldn’t help but smile! I’m sure they smiled as I ran up on the curb driving away. Because waving and driving is obviously a hard thing to do… 🙄😂

So join me! Pay it forward! Do something kind for someone. Or heck, maybe even just SAY something nice to someone. You never know how it may affect their day. Or even their life…

Because let’s remind people that most people are good…
